
Medical Director, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Dr. Sukumar grew up in Anaheim Hills, California. He graduated from UC Riverside in Biology and went on to Touro University for a master’s degree in Medical Health Sciences. Upon completing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Touro University, he trained in Internal Medicine at Elmhurst Hospital in New York. Dr. Sukumar then moved to Wheaton Illinois to enter the Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, a Northwestern University Medicine facility, provided Dr. Sukumar training with state-of-the-art technology and innovative evidence-based therapeutics. He learned to provide sophisticated rehabilitation care with an emphasis on restoring hope and rebuilding lifestyles. He has experience in acute and subacute patient rehabilitation as well as outpatient and day rehabilitation settings.
Dr. Sukumar continued his training with a fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The treatment of Brain Injury begins following the acute injury and continues into the transition to daily home-based living. During his fellowship training, Dr. Sukumar learned to lead comprehensive rehabilitation team care focusing on a combination of cognitive, physical, occupational, neuropsychological and speech therapies.
Dr. Sukumar’s clinical interests include Traumatic and Non-traumatic Brain Injury, Concussion Management, Stroke Rehabilitation. Spasticity Management and Neuro-Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation. Dr. Sukumar’s advanced training has been a great benefit to the patients of the Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital.
