Leon Fogelfeld, M.D.

Dr. Leon Fogelfeld recently joined the Division of Endocrinology at Oceanview Medical Specialists. He came from Chicago where he was for more than 20 years the Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County and the Program Director of the combined Rush/County Endocrinology Fellowship Program. He is Professor of Medicine (Adjunct) at Rush University Medical School.

Dr. Fogelfeld graduated Cum Laude at University of Milan in Italy and did Medicine Residency in Israel. He accomplished his Endocrinology Fellowship training in Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Fogelfeld was active in endocrine and diabetes research. He published many articles and book chapters in areas of thyroid cancer, clinical outcomes in diabetes and in other clinical topics. He is now taking care of our patients with endocrine and diabetes disorders, implementing his long clinical and academic expertise.

Dr. Fogelfeld enjoys life in California with his family and grandchildren. He likes to play tennis, reads books and assists his wife in her artwork.

Nissar Shah, M.D.

Dr. Shah is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He received his graduate medical education at University of Jaipur, India and post graduate degree in Medicine at Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar, Kashmir. After emigrating to the United States, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at SUNY, Buffalo New York, Sisters of Charity Hospital. He pursued his clinical fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA. Dr. Shah performed a research fellowship in Androgen Excess Disorders and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome which was NIH funded grant.

Dr. Shah is the Medical Director of Sierra Vista Diabetes Center of Excellence in Simi Valley, CA. His areas of interest include diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovary syndrome, pituitary disease, and thyroid disorders. Dr. Shah has special expertise in the use of ultrasound guided thyroid aspiration biopsy. Dr. Shah has brought his expert clinical skills to the VCMC medical system and is available for consultation in Endocrinology.

Joseph Pinzone, M.D.

Dr. Pinzone practices Endocrinology including treatment of patients with diabetes, thyroid problems and other hormonal disorders. He sees ambulatory patients at Magnolia Family Medical Center and Conejo Valley Family Medical Group. Dr. Pinzone is on staff at Ventura County Medical Center and sees hospitalized patients there. He is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Pinzone is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Pinzone graduated from New York University School of Medicine and completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University, where he achieved a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to investigate the cause of pituitary tumors.

After fellowship, Dr. Pinzone joined the faculty of The George Washington University School of Medicine where he practiced and taught. At GW, he achieved a Master of Business Administration with honors and secured a 5-year research grant from the NIH to study breast cancer.

Dr. Pinzone then joined the faculty of The Ohio State University College of Medicine where his clinical work focused on patients with pituitary problems. He also taught and headed a molecular biology laboratory where he investigated why breast cancer spreads to bone.

Prior to working at VCMC and affiliated clinics, Dr. Pinzone worked at Amgen, Inc. where he was Clinical Research Medical Director in the Hematology/Oncology Therapeutic Area. He was the North American Medical Leader for the launch of XGEVA^®, during which time he ran a team with multiple sub-teams focused on medical affairs. He then joined the Amgen Bone Therapeutic Area. Throughout his tenure at Amgen, Dr. Pinzone focused on denosumab, a monoclonal antibody that inactivates RANK Ligand, a naturally occurring protein in our bodies that promotes bone resorption. Denosumab can be used to treat patients with bone metastases and those with osteoporosis.
